About Celiacs, Inc. 

   Who are you?  Celiacs, Inc. is a private, public supported, not-for-profit organization located in Omaha, Nebraska.  

    Goal Statement:  To provide information, education materials, and referral resources for celiac patients [on the conditions of celiac disease and dermatitis herpetiformis and their associated prescription gluten-free diet] through the utilization of the following resources:  an internet web site and a monthly newsletter. 

    Corporation Status:  Approved by the Internal Revenue Service as a publicly supported private, nonprofit organization with 501 [c][3] status through 2005.  Incorporated in the State of Nebraska.

    Use of "Crossed Grain" Symbol:  Permission for use of the crossed grain symbol [logo], an internationally registered trade mark, was granted to Celiacs, Inc., Omaha, Nebraska, USA through Coeliac UK.

    To Order Subscriptions to the Newsletter/Post Card Series:  See the Order Forms section of the web site for a Once-A-Month newsletter for celiacs.  [A short 2-page post card newsletter is sent in even-numbered months; a longer 10-page newsletter is sent in odd-numbered months.  We are considering January, March, May, July, September, November as odd-numbered months for the 10-page newsletter; we are considering February, April, June, August, October, December as even-numbered months for the 2-page post card newsletter.  

    Funding of Celiacs, Inc.:  Donors provided monies for the start-up; a series of Contributions and Gifts in addition to the  subscriptions to the newsletter series are the basis for our continued funding resources.

    Contributions:  For those individuals who have asked to make contributions with the use of a credit card, that section has now been added to the site.  The continued support of individuals, families, and groups is sincerely appreciated.  

    Memberships:  Celiacs, Inc. does not offer memberships; our intent is to concentrate on our monthly newsletter; information on the web site; and, on the development of a set of basic materials thought to be helpful to celiacs and their families.  

    Note to Celiac Friends:   It takes a vision to undertake the development of a new organization.  With input from a number of celiacs and professionals along with their encouragement and sharing, several realities for Celiacs, Inc. have surfaced.  Many times we have gone back to the drawing board; many times--instead of building, we appear to have moved into a remodeling project.  And while the remodeling or building is going on, the life of the program goes on, with all its opportunities and challenges.

        Some people were surprised by the developments being attempted; many more were surprised it has taken so long.  Many celiacs told us it was a set of ideas that simply made sense.  And we are finding out they were right. So much has gone so well in such a brief time.

    A Construction Crew Committed to Serve Celiacs:  Today, the new organization, Celiacs, Inc. is being fashioned by our work force along with the sharing of physicians, dietitians, and about 200 celiacs who are saying, "Why don't you do this or that?"

        The structure and purpose of our organization is becoming clearer.  We're making difficult decisions about which function and program efforts will be accepted and which will be most helpful to celiacs and their families.  Because we are a caring group attempting a caring work, we trust that we have matched requests with direction;  we want to develop offerings that will be helpful.

    A Fresh Start  A fresh start is what Celiacs, Inc. is all about.  That is what is afforded those with vision, those who work hard and give it their best.  As we move forward, there will be many fresh starts for our organization. You are invited to consider the newsletter publication series along with our new name representing our new organization and the several publications "in process" for your e-mailbox or your U.S. mailbox.  Your sharing and direction along with your participation is invited.
